I am obsessed with skating. Going really fast and doing tricks are what I love to do. But my old roller blades fell apart from a bad crash I took, so now I need to get new ones. I could really use some help on decided what kind I should get. Does anyone know anything that can help me?
Does anyone know what roller blades I should get?
"Going really fast" and "doing tricks" are opposites for inline skates.
Both terms have wide ranges of meanings to people.
Tricks can be anything from slalom and dance moves to grinding and getting lots of air in jumps.
Some people feel that 10 miles in an hour is fast, others go 26 miles in an hour and a quarter.
If you want skates to do both tricks and speed, you will need to look at how much of each you want to do.
Agressive skating is the extreme end of tricks. The small hard wheels needed for landing from jumps are horrible for speed. Agressive skates are very specificaly designed just to be good for that sport.
If your tricks are more mild, like jumps that start from the ground, stairs, dance and slalom, then medium sized wheels on a short frame are more useful. You can still go relatively fast with them.
Shorter frames and smaller wheels are better for manueverability and tricks. Longer frames and larger wheels are better for speed. Tall solid boots are better for tricks and short flexible boots are better for speed.
The middle ground includes "street" skates, "recreational" skates, and the lower end of "fitness" skates. You will need to decide on the trade offs between the two ends of that range.
For the best speed, you will want large wheels, long frames, and lower cut boots.
If you really want to go fast, you want larger wheels and low cut boots. It will be hard to do much in the line of tricks in high end fitness or racing skates.
The farther you want to get into tricks and speed the more you might want to consider two pair of skates.
The two major brands in the US are Rollerblade and K2. They will have the most support and parts available from local vendors. For skates closer to the ends (I guessing that it is not what you want), there are smaller companies that are more specialized.
Unfortunately, most people in stores do not have significant skating experiance and really cannot help you much.
Do you have other local friends who do similar skating to you? If you can find a local club, you might find people who you can talk things over with and help sort out the trade offs between skates.
Reply:If your looking for aggressive skates(ie. the ones you go to the skatepark with)
I would suggest some USD's or Razors
If your looking for the other ones recreational (with big wheels)I would suggest Bauer, or Rollerblade. Rollerblade is a old and great company, they dont make good aggressive skates, but there rec. skates are WONDERFUL! Great, comfy skates.
All these can be bough from here.
