The cat clawed me up bad, and when I tried to bail off the bike it beat the hell out of me.

I never saw that cat again, poor thing.. sniff sniff

You think it was okay?
Reply:No. But I did seperate a cat fight in a roller rink. I don't know what prankster thought it would be cool to put rollerskates on cats though...

What's that arcade game with the black kid on roller skates?

There was some game that I used to play on an arcade machine in the lobby of a movie theater and I liked it a lot and I wanted to read about it on the internet, but all I can really remember is that it had a young boy of African American kinship on roller skates, and that one of the bosses was a very large African American woman. Can somebody please help me out? These were the days before roller blades became really cool.

They have there skate boards %26amp; roller blades. Why do they make me out to be a freak? They call me nasty names %26amp; I am nice people.

They called me names because I ride roller skates why?
Because they are jerks and can't see that roller skates and blades are pretty much the same thing but with the wheels in different places.I like roller Skates way more!

people also will be mean to you as long as you let them see that they can hurt your feelings.

This Is Very Important To Know: when you let someone hurt your feelings, you are showing them respect and that you admire them for their wisdom.

if you think about it that way, only the people you love and who love you should be able to hurt your feelings.

so laugh and these people and make a joke if you can. jokingly turn it back on them as in: what's with this, couldn't you afford to buy all the wheels for your skates. or, your skateboard has four wheels, if you are so great, chop off the ends and see if you can manage a four wheel skate. then lift one of your skates off the ground and show them that you can skate on one short "skateboard."

start your own retro club of skaters.

good luck.

How do i clean my roller skate wheels?

I have light colored wheels so they get really dirty. They are not inline or roller blades. they're quad skates. They have a lot of dirt ect.

What is the best/easiest/cheapest way to clean them.

thanks

How do i clean my roller skate wheels?
Dusting and cleaning

When was the last time you removed every wheel and wiped down the bearings? It's important to keep away the grime that cakes onto the outside of your bearings. Wipe with a slightly damp cloth and, if necessary, gently dig out the dirt.

If your wheels have a pronounced shaved-off look on the inside edges, it's time to flip them over and swap the position of the most worn wheels with the least worn. Are your 78mm wheels now 68s? You know it's time for new wheels when you can barely read the writing on the sides (or when there are no sides at all!)

How can I roller blade faster?

I play in a roller hockey league but I have a problem. I am slower than many of the other people in the league and I am wondering if there is anyway to make myself faster. Thanks!

How can I roller blade faster?
Faster bearings won't neccissarily make you faster. The ABEC ratings have more to do with the durability of the bearing than how fast they are. Changing your wheels could help a little. Harder wheels are faster than soft ones. Check out places like Dunham's or MC Sports for wheels designed for roller hockey. Practice building explosive power. You can do this by taking off as fast as you can from a standstill and sprinting a short distance. Interval training can also help. Hit the bike trail and skate for a while at a steady pace, then sprint for a while. Not only will it help build speed, but also endurance.
Reply:What kind of skates are you using? Wheels, bearings too - so that I can make some recommendations 2u? What kind of surface is it? How long have you been playing?

But yeah, first-hand experience and use tells me that Swiss bearings are great I would only use them indoors though. Outdoors they get clogged up really quick and it's not worth the extra expence.
Reply:Get some new abec bearings, swiss to be exact. Or practice sprinting gradually getting faster.
Reply:Get a pair of rockets, by ACME, and strap 'em to your skates. They will increase your speed by a lot!
Reply:go downhill!
Reply:Get one of those skin tight suits and shave your head....go downhill!

Is skateboard easy to learn or roller skates is more easier???

its roller skates not roller blades

Is skateboard easy to learn or roller skates is more easier???
Skateboarding is much harder to learn in my opinion. If it's your first time on a skateboard, you need to learn how to stand, push, stop, and stay on the skateboard without falling. Took me a couple weeks.

Roller skates are easier because you can control the wheels easier and you won't fall much.

But if you were to say which one were more fun, skateboarding is for me because you can practice lots of tricks, and it is quite fun once you get the hang of it.
Reply:skateboard is probably more difficult, but much more fun to do, roller skates is easier to loose control of and more boring, go for skate boarding! or do both! xx
Reply:pad up (elbow's and knees) or they will look like mine from skate boarding.
Reply:i think rollerbladin is easier but skateboard is more fun

Why do my feet hurt while roller blading?

I just bought some roller blades, ands my feet hurt when i ride. They are a bit small. I am a size 10 or so in athletic shoes, and my blades are 11, so maybe i should get a bigger size? just standing in them hurts my feet. I am pissed, because i just bought them and they hurt my feet. is it just because they are brand new? i though it would go away, but ive ridden in them twice and still it hurts my inner foot. i even tried to loosen the laces and the latch, and although it helped somewhat, it hurt after a little while. any suggestions?

Why do my feet hurt while roller blading?
Depending on the brand that you bought, roller blades tend to be made of majority plastic. Unfortunately this is not great for breaking in and allowing them to form to your feet. If your "inner foot" hurts, I would have to say that it is most likely you need arch-support. I really like Dr. Scholls, but you could go with any brand of foot inserts. Remember you can always trim the inserts to fit the skate (unless they are gel inserts). If you are getting blisters on the inner foot, then your skates are too big or you are wearing them too loose. Skate shops also sell "blister pads" which are round and you simply place them in the skate where you are getting blisters, it keeps your foot from moving as much in the skate.

I am sad to say that your skates may not be too big or too small. Recreational roller blades tend to be uncomfortable and painful. Your best option might be to try a different brand altogether. Also, it is important to remember that you get what you pay for.
Reply:Your welcome! I know that $75 seems like a lot, but the skates that I trained in cost more like $500+ just for the boot. I hope the inserts help, and remember that it takes a while for the skate to fit to your foot (or vice versa). Happy skating! Report It

Reply:It actually may be that they are too loose over the middle part of your foot. If the boot is not tightly attached to your foot, then during every swing phase when the boot is in the air there is strain placed on the foot. Try thick socks %26amp; keep them snug. I would also go back to the skate shop %26amp; ask for some assistance in fitting you properly. Even if you didn't buy them at a skate shop, see if you can find a shop in your area where you can get some experienced help - they shouldn't mind, because at some point you'll be back for accessories or new skates if you skate enough to wear these out.
Reply:Small for you? ^^ i think thats the answer

How good are outdoor quad roller skates?

I've always loved skating. Nowadays, it seems roller blades are everywhere. I do have a pair, but it seemed like skating in regular skates was easier. When I was a kid, I had a pair of roller skates. I think I brought them to the rink sometimes, but I remember trying them outside. It seemed like every little rock on the pavement would cause my skate to want to stop. Kinda like when you try to pull a pallet jack and a piece of wood gets in front of the wheels. Do the special outdoor skates prevent this? I want a skate that isn't going to be effected by tiny little rocks outside. Otherwise, it wouldn't be worth it.

How good are outdoor quad roller skates?
Go to rollergirl.ca and ask your question in the forums there.. They are fantastic at answering questions just like yours... They know their stuff and will recommend what kind of wheels are best for outdoors. It's all in the wheel type..I disagree with the other answer "you have to use inlines for outside skating" .... They have a whole section selling outdoor skates (that also are used indoor as well) ... .I myself have just recently decided to get back into the quads instead of inlines.... so have been researching a bit and I just found the rollergirl.ca website..They sell skates but also have a forum to ask questions.. . . Check it out.. (oh and be careful - it's dot CA .... ..not dot com... the .com address is a porn site.!!)
Reply:just saw www.skates.com They have quadline skates! Report It

Reply:You need to get in-line skates to use them outside
Reply:I haven't seen or used what you call "outdoor quad" roller skates. I have tried roller blades %26amp; find them too hard on my ankles %26amp; difficult to control. I learned to skate on 4 wheels %26amp; this is second nature to me. When you hit a rock, you learn how to do quick little movements that should keep your body OFF the sidewalk! I have used wood, metal, %26amp; plastic wheels on my skates over the past 50 years %26amp; it is the person who wears the skates that makes all the difference in the kind of ride they end up having. If you expect things to be smooth, then stay on an indoor track or a parking lot that gets cleaned often. Fall %26amp; winter are not very good times to go skating due to the leaves %26amp; tree limbs that litter the sidewalks!

Would roller-blading help me lose weight?

I'm 6"5', aged 17 and weigh about 23 stone (yikes!)

I'm just settling into a diet which has helped me lose about 10lbs in the last fortnight.

Where I live it's mostly flat and I hate, HATE walking.

So I wondered whether doing something instead of walking for exercise.

Now I take my dogs walking up a mountain near here about 4 times a week, which has a really wide, long, flat concrete road on [ideal for skates]. So this made me think of getting roller blades to use everytime I go up there and was wondering if they'd help in the weight loss process.

Thanks.

Would roller-blading help me lose weight?
Depends on your technique.

If you learn an effective 'distance-skating' style, with lots of crossovers, good 'extension', and long glides, then your weight is likely to increase while you get used to the new activity (new muscle added to allow you to perform the unaccustomed movements). At the same time, you'll find that your body shape is improving (more leg muscle, tighter waist, V-shaped torso).

After your physique has adapted to the skating style, it will start to become more efficient at it. This will lead to the fat stores around your body being rearranged, and some of them might become smaller, too. Reducing your stored fat is ALWAYS a slow process, and it will only happen if you spend a long time skating GENTLY (and are active while you're not skating too).

If you skate powerfully, inefficiently, and jerkily for short periods, you will still put new muscle mass on, but because your activity is burning sugar (and leaving you tired and hungry afterwards), you won't be able to get rid of much bodyfat.
Reply:Any exercise will help you lose weight. If you like roller blading, than go for it.
Reply:Of course, Roller Blading is a great way to loose weight. I do it all the time =)

Any physical activity that moves your blood and burns food off is Excellent for looseing weight and becomeing healthy.

-Doctor Means
Reply:Any type of movement is good for you. walking or skating with your dogs is a good idea. Just don't let them do all the work :)
Reply:Well, if the dogs will be pulling you on skates its going to do nothing for you. If youre going to skate rather than walking go for it.

Good luck. =]

Roller blading with my dog?

I have a 5 year old golden retriever who, I don't think, gets enough exercise. He gets a mile walk a day at the moment.

So I was thinking that it might be a good idea to get a pair of roller blades and take him out with them! I can handle him fine, and I think I can skate ok!

My question is, or my questions are, can I use his head halti (I don't want him pulling me). Is it safe, my dad thinks I'll "End up breaking a leg".!

I'm only 15, if that makes anything different :P

Thanks much!

Roller blading with my dog?
If you are a good rollerblader it would be great. Just be careful in case the dog sees something like a cat and starts pulling you.

I had a friend that was rollerblading with my dog once and she ended up falling....but she didn't get hurt badly or anything.
Reply:Only if you can roller balde very good and also have very good controll of your dog other wise he/she will take you for a long trip
Reply:Roller bladding with a dog can be fun but be careful if the dog does a sharp turn u can go with him/her so have fun but don't take my word 4 it if u get hurt wich i dought will happen it isn't my fault but anyway's have fun.
Reply:I would not recommend the Halti. I would be afraid that if you were to fall and he was running, it could snap his neck back quickly and injure him. I would have a body harness on him instead. Please do where a bicycle helmet, knee pads, and wrist protectors. It's what I had my kids wear when they use to rollar blade. It's all about safety for you and your dog. Always expect the unexpected.Sounds like you have fun with your dog.
Reply:you need to be a good roller blader and the dog shouldn't be strong willed or else he will pull you and you would loose control.
Reply:Your asking for trouble, and a 1 mile walk for an adult golden retriever is not really enough exercise.

Too many things can go wrong on blades. Even with a gentle leader you could be in an accident before you knew what happened. Besides, no matter what, your going to have to build up her stamina before you go blading with her for a long distance (or even a short one).

Why don't you try jogging instead. Even riding a bike. Don't forget, your gonna have to take extra care to make sure her feet are protected and build up her stamina slowly no matter what you do. And let's face it, retrievers were bred to swim. Why don't you take her swimming instead (low impact aerobic exercise).
Reply:Your dad is right. Years ago my baby sister took our little mutt, 25 lbs, out on her roller skates. The dog was good on a leash but caught site of a cat he wanted. End result my sister broke her arm. You need two feet firmly planted on the ground.

I was thinking of roller blading from my school to my house everyday. Does Roller Blading help you balance when you Ice Skate?

I want to know this because, i learned how to roller blade after i found out that i couldn't take ice skating lessons( this was 3 years ago) so i practiced skating on my sisters roller blades

and i know how to skate on it now. Does that mean it MIGHT be easier for me to be able to balance on ice?

Does Roller Blading help you balance when you Ice Skate?
i started playing ice hockey since i was 2 and know i am 14 so i thought i would answer this

ok it does some what but not much because on ice it is much much slippery then on land and if u fall u fall u cant do anything bout it but keep trying so keep up the good work
Reply:i think so.

because i have been skating since i was two years old (now im 16) and i cant rollerblade for crap.

i tried to last summer, and it just didnt work out for me.

thing is though, i think that ice skating is easier than rollerblading because...idk why but i just think that it is easier to balance on ice.

so i think youll be fine on the ice, if not better
Reply:Roller blading and ice skating aren't exactly the same. They do share some similarities, but are also very different at the same time. Balancing on the ground in roller blades and balancing on a thin metal blade on ice are quite a bit different from each other.
Reply:Personally I found that rollerblading helps me to balance on the ice. I rollerbladed all through college and now my children figure skate. When I go out with them for an open skate I am able to skate around okay.

Stopping is a completely different issue! I still can't do that on ice.
Reply:I've been figure skating for 5 years.. but cant roller blade. Lol i dunno, i think its cos on roller blades the brakes are at the back of the boot.. and if u leant back to stop in ice skates, ud be in trouble! Theyre just.. different!
Reply:while roller blading is not exactly like skating, it is very similar, if you've been practicing on roller blades, skating should be easier
Reply:well its different for everyone. i find roller blading very difficult at not at all like skating.

if you want to get better you just need to keep practicing.
Reply:ice skate have edges so some people thing that skating is easier..but ya it should help
Reply:yep it helps. i roller bladed a lot before i went and i didnt need to use the handle bars

I need some help. Anyone who knows how to Roller Blade answer this plz!?

I do not know how to Roller Blade. I want to know how because all my friends can and i cannot. I already tried doing the roller skates with 4 wheels...but i go too slow. Anyone have any tips on how to get the hang of Roller Blading...without falling?

I need some help. Anyone who knows how to Roller Blade answer this plz!?
try askin your friends to help you
Reply:well it is really simple just put your legs like really close togather and then from the bottom make them go into the opposite direction and you will be fine. i assume that you have courage but i really beleive you should show it. and i have no doubt you will succeed.
Reply:You should learn how to skate with the four wheel ones first. After you have learned the skating techniques then you can use the roller blades. Because the wheels are in one line it is harder to maintain your balance. Do the same techniques that you did while in the four wheel skates. Use your arms to balance and propel yourself. It just takes lots of practice. The more you do it the more comfortable you till feel. Yes, you may fall a few times but it is all part of the learning experience. Have fun!
Reply:try the other kind of roller skates.. that's how i learned... and slowly go back to the roller blades
Reply:Yeah, wear a bunch of pads along with a helmet , at least when you're learning. Pads include wrist pads, elbow and knee pads. Find a nice smooth surface, such as a parking lot. My favorite place to roller blade is a concrete parking lot with no traffic. Tennis courts are great too. Especially if the net is down. You may want to go to a local roller rink to practice. If you are reasonably coordinated then you should feel comfortable on roller blades within a short period. Oh, buy good quality roller blades that are comfortable. Try not to fall on your butt; keep your weight forward.
Reply:I learned how to roller blade while our son was in a stroller 16 years ago and I have shared this advice with many people, trying it first behind a stroller is the best way to go! If you don't have kids, borrow one and a stroller! HA! My advice would be a toddler, not a newborn. Or perhaps put a large sack of potatoes in one if you are accident prone. Start out slow, pushing out to the sides, get a rhythm going. The tricky part is stopping and slowing down. You should have a brake on the back of at least one of your skates, maybe both. If you are right handed, put your weight on your left foot, knees slightly bent, lift the toe of your right skate and let the brake hit the ground, smoothly, not suddenly. The faster you want to stop, the more pressure you apply. You can learn to use the brake to slow yourself down while going down hill, try very small hills first!

Hope this helps! Have fun.
Reply:I rollerblade all of the time. Have your feet pointed A LITTLE outwards and make sure you are ballanced. Just roll on the wheels and stop if you need to. Rollerblading is alot of fun....all you really need is balance.
Reply:Depending on how old you are, you can have your mum/dad hold your hand and pull you along until you find your balance point and are able to skate by yourself. If you're too old for mum/dad's help, you can have a friend help you, or you can use a shopping cart until you find your balance point.

Hope this helps. =]
Reply:the first thing i made sure i could do when i started roller blading was balance. but your skates on and make sure you can stand still and push off something and have your balance. when you got that down, practice accelerating by pushing off with your feet. when you get that down you pretty much have roller blading down.
Reply:Yeah no problem i don't know your friends but they should help you out . You want to stand up lazy kind of like orangutang alright not exactly but you want to bend you knees a little and let your arms rest beside your hips or in front of your thighs also you'll want point your elbows out little not a lot though now you should remember don't skate frozen or like a statue move you arms and legs once you get going to get going you want to push slide or roll your skate diagonally backwards.Keep practicing. Hope this helps you out.
Reply:Hey, i love to roller blade,. It's very easy once you get the hang of it.

to help you with your balance you can start of by going slowly, like just gliding along a flat surface. like maybe a quiet street.

once youve got the hang of that you can start like pushing with your feet(still going at a steady speed) while holding on to someone or something.

once youve done that you can go on your own(but you should have people with you still).

and if you fall, it;s ok. just get back up..

and you should wear helmets and pads and everything(just to be safe)

HOPE THIS HELPED!!

The second link below is to Olliewood in Wake Forest. I think it is just a skate shop.

I suggest you visit a skate shop in your area and ask patrons and employees where you can blade outdoors. There may be a bulletin board or shoppers or employees may know of places you can go.

If I can roller blade, can I also ice skate? How do I brake?

I'm going ice skating for the first time tomorrow.

I can roller blade just fine, how is ice skating different?

Any tips on how to brake, clothes, or anything else I should know?

If I can roller blade, can I also ice skate? How do I brake?
The ability to roller blade will definitely help you out, but it won't guarantee a strong grasp of ice skating. Certain styles of roller blading do not translate well to the ice, so it's kind of a crap shoot. You have to be conscious of your edges and stay low if you feel like you are going to fall; bend from your knees, not your waist. Make sure your skates fit snuggly; you shouldn't lose circulation, but the fit should be just a notch looser than that.

If you know how to hockey stop on blades, the ice skates should be similar, but just take the stop a little slower. You can also do a plough stop; like in skiing (pizza pie/french fries technique). Spread your legs apart and angle your toes inward while pushing your weight outward from you heels; feet should angle inward at about a 45 degree angle. Bend your knees and sit back a bit... you should at least slow down considerably.

Reply:They are similer enough that you shouldn't have any of the typical getting started problems but there are some differences to keep in mind.

Hockey and figure skates (what the places usually rent) have a rocker. Unless your inline skates are set up for doing dance moves and slalom, the wheels will be set flat. The rocker will make them feel like they want to go in random directions. This will let you turn sharper than you probably can on your inlines but it will take some time to get used to.

You use your toe more as part of your stride in ice skating than you do on inlines (assuming that you don't have the bad habit of toe pushing on inlines).

There is much less grip during the push part of your stride than with inlines. If you have a strong push segment of the stride, you may have to back off a bit.

Braking is obviously different.

If you do a T-stop (dragging the side of a skate behind you) on your inlines, it works well on ice.

Lunge turns are also effective and easier on the ice skates because of the rocker.

Spin stops also work well on ice.
Reply:brake by turning ur knees in so ur outer edge skids on the ice.

and i think so.

i started out with a little rollerblading, and i started figure skating and compete 3 competitions a yr and skate 4 times a week.
Reply:well ice skating is alot harder but roller blades are kinda similar to ice skating. well to brake on ice skating is simple you just have to turn to the right or left and stop gliding. and for clothes you could just wear pants and a sweater cause its very cold in an ice rink.
Reply:The two are similar in that you have to push the same way in skates as in rollerblades....push using the sides of your blades instead of your toes, but really, they're very different. I've been figure skating for a long time, but don't claim to be very good on rollerblades! Personally, I think skating on ice is easier. You don't have to worry about rocks and junk or cracks in the sidewalk or hills. It's easier to push and gain speed.

As for stopping, the easiest way to stop on ice is called a snowplow stop. If you have ever gone skiing, this may sound familiar. To do a snowplow stop, point your toes slightly inward to make an upside down V shape and push out to the sides. Keep your arms out for balance and bend your knees. Practice them first just standing still. With your feet about a shoulder width apart, bend your knees, arms out and push out with your feet. Be sure not to let your upper body lean foward or backward.

If you're going skating, I don't recommend wearing jeans. Should you wipe out, the jeans absorb water and won't dry as quickly as sweats or athletic pants. Also you're more flexible in anything but jeans. You'd probably do just fine in sweats, a t-shirt, fleece/sweatshirt and gloves if you're skating indoors.

Also, be sure to tie the ankles of your skates tightest because that is where you need the most support. Have fun!
Reply:i do not think they are that similar but anyways to stop you can put your feet in a T and put pressure on your back foot put yourtoes together a bit making a V shape or if they are NOT hockey boots you will have a toe pick pick your foot up put it behind you on the ice and the toe pick will continuolusly pick the ice untill you stop if all else fails hit the boreds (hands first if possible) attire NOT jeans
Reply:Roller blading is very similar to ice skating. For an Ice Skater, it harder to roller blade because it's on wheels (trust me, i've been in ice competitions!), ane vice versa for roller bladers. To Stop on ice you can turn backwards and lean on your toepicks. An easier way is having one foot in front close to a 90 degree angle to your body making sure your toepick is on the inside (toepicks should most always face each other). Clothes wise, Jeans, t-shirt and sweater is fine, maybe gloves and hat if you're very new to the ice. After a while, you'll get sweaty (believe it or not) so you can take the sweater off. Since i've gone before, i typically wear special tight that go over my boots. Anything else- if you see somebody showing off, aka- spins jumps-, don't try it. It takes a ton of practice. I had one kid try to copy me and he broke his wrist. Rental skates tend to be very uncomfortable so wear comfortable full length socks (no ankle socks- you'll get a blister). Don't look down, you'll lose your balance and if you think you'll fall, go by the wall so you can catch yourself.
Reply:Yep! if you can roller blade you can skate :) to brake you can point your toes together but not to fast or you'll fall over. wear thick socks or you'll get blisters! and if you fall over (everyone does at first...) keep your fingers in, 'cause you don't want them chopped off. if you need any other help just ask the people you're with.

Oh, and most importantly Have Fun!

good luck
Reply:Roller blading is alot easier than ice skating. You should be able to do it but you won't be able to stop as easily.

Just remember to push the front of your skate down towards the ice to slow yourself down.

Keep a steady pace, and you need to move your legs a bit differently, keep your feet on the ground more than you would if you were rollerblading and sway your hips a bit more to push yourself along the ice.
Reply:thats how i strted, i used to rollarblade, i switched over to ice skating, to snow u kinda put ur foot forward....or go into the wall, either way works, the diff is that ice is alot more slippery. wear gloves, very important, if u fall, its very cold...also, wear sweatpants....u dont wanna rip jeans...it aint pretty....oh, n thick socks...
Reply:It's about the same. Just use strike 2 to move on the ice. To brake, do t-stop. if you r afraid of falling, i advise u to move in a v.

Will roller blade wheels fit on a skateboard?

Will any type of roller blade wheels fit on a normal skateboard with or without modifications.

Will roller blade wheels fit on a skateboard?
Nop, I once tried too...Not a good idea, some types might but ur skateboard will be alot less stable than it would be with normal wheels and some types dont even fit.
Reply:They might, but there not made for each other so I dont think it would work like its supposed to. Skateboard wheels are smaller than roller blade wheels.
Reply:no because they would unbalance your skate board.

How can i learn to roller blade?

I'm sixteen and i still don't know how to roller blade. i can't even roller skate. i went to a skating party with my cousin at a roller rink and i just clung to the wall and fell down so many times. It was embarassing. Where can i learn how? or does it matter if i can't roller blade? Is it an important skill?

How can i learn to roller blade?
In a way it doesn't really matter. A lot of my friends don't. If you want to get some roller blades. Then all you need to do is keep your balance. It's basically like running but you don't move your legs as fast as you can. You push as hard as you can, with your legs. Good luck.
Reply:Like you learn everything else, you have to start doing it!
Reply:just keep your balance
Reply:I think it doesn't matter at all, but if you want to learn you have to practice a lot until you know how. I don't think there is another way. But, don't feel bad.. Good Luck

Would you point and laugh at a woman attempting to roller blade down the street, while walking an unruly dog?

I've tried just about everything with my Brittany Spaniel, but unless I run for 2 hours then I can't walk my dog in the neighborhood without him dragging me down the street. He's a hyper little thing, and the gentle leader and a harness just don't work...I watched a dvd featuring the dog whisperer, which was given to me by the shelter I adopted him from, and the only thing he mentioned was wearing roller blades to tire out a hyper dog. I don't know how to roller blade and frankly I'm not looking forward to trying it out, but is there anything else that works and if I was to take the plunge, would I look as bad as I think?

Would you point and laugh at a woman attempting to roller blade down the street, while walking an unruly dog?
I'm sure you saw the disclaimer on the Dog Whisperer that said not to try his methods without help from a professional. If you follow ANY of his advice- follow that part! :)

Take your dog to a basic obedience class and you can learn how to teach your dog to walk politely on the leash, in a heel position. You can still give your dog enough exercise while he's walking politely. Once he walks well on a leash, and you learn how to roller blade, you can consider combining the two.

You may also want to consider investing in a tool that allows you to connect your dog's leash to a bicycle. That can give your dog great exercise and they are relatively safe.

Add:

Here's that tool I was referring to:

http://www.springerusa.com/
Reply:lol That would be interesting. I probably wouldn't point but I would kind of laugh to myself. Truely if you aren't comfortable with the roller blade thing than don't do it. There are other ways to tire out your dog. IT would be hard to teach your dog good lease rules on roller blades especially if you aren't good on them. You could try a jog or a really long walke.
Reply:LMAO! Yes, that would look as bad as you think! Great Description!

A video of the Dog Whisperer isn't going to do ANYTHING for you.

Enroll in an obedience class so you can learn how to effectively control the dog and maybe a roller skating lesson or 2, then try the 2 together!
Reply:I would probably not laugh, no. But I would think that is a terrible idea! If he pulls now, he will make you loose your balance on rollerblades unless you are VERY good on them. I suggest a bike. I rode my dog beside a bike for a mile... easy for me... but he was 'dog tired', lol. I almost had to give him a ride home.
Reply:think about it. if the dog isn't trained you will be on your **** as soon as you sttod up. If this is true"I can't walk my dog in the neighborhood without him dragging me down the street" what is he going to do to you an wheels?first step is serious training.
Reply:Consider getting a "springer" attachment for your bicycle. Much safer for both the dog and you.

http://www.springerusa.com/

And, of course, training the dog is always a good option.

Edit: Bossoli said it first... I just type SLOW.
Reply:well i wouldn't point and laugh. but i would be like woahhh.

maybe take him down a bike path, that way the surface is smooth for the rollarblading and some parts have bit of a hill to it.
Reply:You need to go to some obedience classes with your dog.

I would never put on roller blades and have a dog pull me. That could end in you getting seriously injured or the dog getting loose somehow.
Reply:you can try a choke collar or hiring some one to walk him for you.
Reply:Hahaha I'm sorry, but I probably WOULD point and laugh if I saw that!

I tried doing the same thing on a bike with my Pit Bull and I almost ate concrete! Thinking of that makes me crack up!
Reply:try taking him to a dog park or a big closed in yard where he can run around
Reply:well yea and no if im mad i wont laugh but never saw anyone like that
Reply:I'm sorry, but I would totally laugh. If your dog is not being trained to walk properly it is not something the dog is doing wrong, it is something YOU are doing wrong. You must be consistant with your animal and you must work on leash training EVERY day for at the very least five minutes. i can give you a couple of tips if you want them.

However, if you are just looking to calm your dog down or exercise him really well you might want to take your dog to a dog park, it won't solve your leash problems but it mos def tires my crazy beagle out when he gets to run around for an hour and a half terrorizing the place off-leash.
Reply:Well, I run my cattle dog while riding on my atv, but I'm in the country and don't have to worry about keeping him on a leash. When I have to do this with my male pyr who chases cars, it's a lot more difficult and dangerous because I have to watch out to make sure that I don't get him tangled in my vehicle and injured as a result.

If you're going to do it on roller blades, you need to be good enough on roller blades so you don't injure yourself. I would not laugh at you, but I'd be worried about you injuring yourself, which isn't funny.

You could also get one of those treadmills and walk your dog on a treadmill.

Or you could take your dog to obedience classes and learn how to control her. If the gentle leader doesn't work, your dog doesn't see you as Pack Leader. Look for things on your DVD about how to be a pack leader.

cw
Reply:NEVER rollerblade with a dog that is untrained, especially if YOU yourself are untrained on rollerblades. If you dont know how to move, turn, stop, etc on blades and if your dog is unmanageable on a walk, do not rollerblade with it. Period. The dog WILL pull you into yards, into cars, into other people, etc.

Work on training yourself to rollerblade first. Do it alone, in the driveway, with plenty of padding and a helmet. Learn how to turn and stop, learn how to maneuver on anything you might encounter on a walk (rocks, stones, sand, dirt, etc.)

Work on regular obedience training FIRST then use the rollerblades when your dog is obedient to you, listens to commands (stop, go, left, right are good ones to teach when rollerblading) perfectly, does not respond to other dogs or people, etc.

It's hard to rollerblade with a dog that doesn't listen. I tried it with my 15 lb puppy and she managed to pull me into my yard when she went after a bird.... not good. So train the dog before rollerblading with it, or you may get injured.

If you don't know how to blade and your dog doesn't listen, you will get hurt. Don't look to the blades to help train the dog - you need to do that yourself without the blades FIRST. If you need to drain energy, take the dog on longer walks AND buy a doggy backpack. Properly fit and lightly weighted they can drain energy - fifteen minutes will seem like a half and hour to them in a back pack!

PS - i would care more about your safety and the dogs before worrying about how you look.

How can i make my new roller blade bearings work like my original ones?

I bought brand new expensive wheels and bearings for my roller blades. The problem is that these are supposed to be better quality than the original bearings but are no where near as fast as the originals . How can i make them work better?

How can i make my new roller blade bearings work like my original ones?
use them, it takes a while to get them rolling good all you need is to keep using them. Same with all bearings.

Do you(adults) wear a helmet, to bicycle/roller blade?

I recently went to a metro park where i saw a sign -"all persons using wheeled apparatus on this trail are required to wear a helmet" this included bicycles, roller blades, stollers and wheelchairs! I did not get to roller blade because i did not have a helmet, i dont want to wear one, i or no one else i knew even did it as a kid, i dont even know if they existed for the mass population, and well, everyone is still here. But, Wheel chairs! I thought it was silly, so what do you think about this issue?

Do you(adults) wear a helmet, to bicycle/roller blade?
Wheelchairs? Was this sign made of cardboard and written with a sharpie?

Was everyone else on a wheeled device wearing a helmet? If not I'm pretty sure no one will bother you about not having one on. It sounds like more of a legal "cover our butts" type of thing should someone get hurt, not something the city intends to enforce.

Inline roller blade axles can no longer be tightened enough to stay on. Is there a product I can use...?

My roller blades were purchased about 4 years ago and I am having a hard time finding new axles for them. As an alternative I'd like to use the product that will help hold axles in place but I don't know the name of it. Does anyone know of a way to make my axles stay in place?

Inline roller blade axles can no longer be tightened enough to stay on. Is there a product I can use...?
Don't use Locktite! You'll never be able to get the axles off to change your wheels. Try an online store to order axles for your skates. Just be aware there are different sizes depending on the manufacturer of your skates and the year they were made. I've listed a few sites below which may help.

Roller Blade Wheels, the Hard ones?

I need hard roller blade wheels but do not know anything about how hard. I saw 82A, 83A on an ad but is that hard. Someone please inform me. I know nothing about roller blades. My husband has a good pair of roller blades but does not like the wheels. Help please

Q

Roller Blade Wheels, the Hard ones?
Why do you want hard wheels? They vary between different makers. Some roll better and some wear better.

The hard Zero Drag Racing wheels are very hard and wear forever, however, they do not roll as well as the medium. I have had both and prefer the medium wheels (84a). http://www.rollerbob.com/cat-10.html

Bob also carries the Gripper Asphalt wheels at 88a hardness. All I know about them is that Bob said that they are made for roller hockey players on outdoor rinks.

Bob is a friend and I trust him to give unbiased advice (I have watched him talk with people then suggest parts that are appropriate for them and talk them out of the higher priced items.

What was your favorite method of transportation as a kid;;; Bike, Skateboard, Big wheel, Roller skates/blades

I built a chopper out of my old Schwin and bolted a steering wheel in place of the handle bars when I was in 8th grade, it was totally cool and I could ride wheelies forever on it. I built another one a few years back out of a beach cruiser, it's 8 feet long and a blast to ride. ya never really grow out of that stuff!!!

Where can I buy the thick wooly tube socks that go over Roller Skates/Blades and Ice Skates??

Im looking for the ones that fold over and cover the top of the boot. They have no foot part and sort of look like leg warmers, i have earched the net but cant find any.

Where can I buy the thick wooly tube socks that go over Roller Skates/Blades and Ice Skates??
If you mean the regular woolen socks (without the foot part) that (ice) hockey players wear over their leg shields (and somtimes over the upper part of their skates as well), you can buy them in any ice hockey shop, any shop that sells hockey gear has them (unless their sold out, but that's not usually the case). every online shop as well, as far as i can tell. you could check greatskate.com or something like that, or the nhl shop. or just try walking into a shop. you could try links for stores on ice hockey websites. there's something called www.whitebear.co.uk but i'm not completely sure what they sell. they've got jerseys, so they'll have the socks as well i guess. the proper link (if this doesn't work) is on the nhl website (www.nhl.com) try that one.

are you sure you looked properly? coz they really sell those things like everywhere!
Reply:Those just sound like plain old hockey socks. Any sports store that carries hockey gear should have them.
Reply:Did you try searching for "Boot Covers?" Check some of the skating supply sites.
Reply:Your local sports shop should be able to help you with that.

Why do my feet hurt so much after one or two minutes on ice skates, or roller blades, that I can't continue?

Oddly, if I can tolerate the pain long enough it passes, but it is so unbearable that I can rarely make it through the pain period. I like skating BUT...!

Why do my feet hurt so much after one or two minutes on ice skates, or roller blades, that I can't continue?
That happened to me, too. It is your muscles cramping up because they are not used to skating. I had the problem more with ice skates than roller blades. My coach said it would pass as I got better, and she was right, but man oh man did it take a long time for that to happen. And when I quit skating for a while, the pain was back when I started again. It can also be that the boots are not fitting properly, but if the pain goes away then it is probably just your muscles tensing up. It is murder! The only way to get past it is to skate more often. Perhaps the boots need to be broken in, too - new boots are stiff and painful for a while. I really sympathize. I would get horrible cramps in the bottom of my feet. It hurts me just thinking about it!
Reply:You sound as though you are on hire skates, they are murder. There is nothing like your own boots, whatever skating discipline you take up.You can get hip hop or disco quadlines, these have 100mm wheels and will not bother your feet because they are quads and extremely stable.Just get on line and google--HAIGHT STREET SKATING--it will give you some idea, there are many roller skate sites, just type in --QUADLINE SKATES,you will be surprised. When buying ,just order the same as your normal shoe size, you can always compensate with extra socks, if they are too loose you will get blisters.
Reply:It is most likely the skate's problem, but it could be your feet. It could be your feet/legs tensing up, thus wearing down your muscles quickly and making them hurt.

If not, its the skates not giving you support. Where exactly does it hurt? If its the ankle, you'll either need support there (new skates) or that gel padding. if its the arch, then you'll either need it punched out, or you'll need support there. If its anywhere in the toes or heel, it's most likely too small there, and you'll need it punched out or get new skates.

Ultamatly, see if you can find a pro shop, with people who understand all of this. Tell them exactly what the problem is, and they will give you a precise answer.

Hope that helps!
Reply:It is most likely that your skates aren't properly fitted possibly in the width or length. Good luck!
Reply:When I started ice skating, My feet hurted terribly. I just tried other sizers and either lossensed them up for tighten them. Your main problem is that they probably don't fit properly.
Reply:maybe your skates aren't a good fit for your feet. it's either too tight or too lose. i'm not sure about figure skates, but hockey skates are usually two sizes smaller that your shoe size. like, i have a size 5 shoe size but my hockey skates are a size 3.5. hope i helped in one way or another. you should really check your skates if they're a good fit or not.
Reply:well with figure skates it means that they are too big. i know that might seem weird but it is. roller blades i have no clue bc i am an figure skater and my feet did start to hurt when i just started out. If still not sure, ask the rink emploeyess that should help or you can ask a coach. YOu don't have to have a coach just to ask. just be nice about it.

Good Luck!!!!!

~SKITTLES~
Reply:If they are your own skates then they might be too small for you. If they are new it is because you haven't broken in your skates yet.
Reply:The reason your feet hurt in probably because your skates are not fitted properly.

You could try to wear the skates a little bit looser and see if that might help.

A 30 kg girl and a 25 kg boy face each other on friction-free roller blades.the girl pushes the boy,who moves?

They both move, in opposite directions, of course they have different speeds.

EDIT;

Well, there is one joke answer, and some slight misunderstandings, the mass does matter, the girl will be moving slower, so in a _given period of time_ the girl will move less distance, but with no friction, both will move forever

A 30 kg girl and a 25 kg boy face each other on friction-free roller blades.the girl pushes the boy,who moves?
They both do, every action has an equal and opposite reaction
Reply:both will move in the same direction
Reply:They both move in opposite directions. The girl moves less distance than the boy.
Reply:They will both move, but they will not move at the same velocity. Even though they are in a frictionless environment, their mass still determines the amount of inertia each has. More mass = more inertia. A body at rest tends to stay at rest. The more massive girl will not move as fast as the boy.
Reply:If there is no friction, then their weight shouldn't be a factor at all (gravity is the force pulling you towards the ground. If there's no difference in friction between two opposing weights, gravity plays no role in how much friction is created between the ground and the rollerblades). They will move in opposite directions at the exact same speed.

At Lockwood skating palace When you dont bring your skates Can you get roller blades?
Most skating rinks will have inline rentals these days, but it's best to check with the rink. Lockwood Skating Palace doesn't seem to have their own website, but at RinkTime it does check off that they have "inline skating (all ages)".

If they're picking up the phone, call at a different time - it's possible they are closed at certain times of the day. It's surprising they don't have a taped message!

Have fun at the party!
Reply:Yes, you can get either rollerblades or quad skates.

(You can even switch midway if you find one is too hard.)

Is learning to snowboard easier if I am already pretty good at roller blades?

Roller blading will help to learn skiing more - two independant feet with using pressure on one or the other for balance.

Skateboarding, surfing, wakeboarding and windsurfing require balance over a single board keeping your center of balance over the board. These will help more when learning to snowboard.

But regardless, a good sense of balance will help. And snowboarding isn't that hard to learn the basics. I was going down intermediate runs on my third day. Getting REALLY good is a whole different matter!

Good Luck

Is learning to snowboard easier if I am already pretty good at roller blades?
Maybe a little. For the balance and center-of-gravity issues. And your familiarity with falling down.

Other than that, not so much, because you're going to use an EDGED board to carve your turns, etc. Skiing or surfing kinda teaches that aspect a lot better than rollerblading.

Good luck!
Reply:in short, no. you will still suck at first, but its not too hard to master easy hills after a few days.
Reply:The only similarity is balance. Thats about it! Snowboarding is nothing like rollerblading. First of all, you feet are locked in a snowboard, its all about turning on your edges of the board, not two feet on some wheels!!
Reply:Sorry but no. Pretty much a completely different type of movement. You'll have some extra balance training but other than that it's not going to make a difference. People think that skateboarding will help but even that is not going to make a big difference because you don't have a "base" and "edge" on a skateboard.

Don't worry though, you'll fall a lot the first couple of times but soon you'll get the hang of it and the first time you link a few turns down the hill you'll realize how much fun it can be.

What's a good way to earn some extra cash while on roller blades?

Extreme dog-walking.

What's a good way to earn some extra cash while on roller blades?
The fun way: roll down a large hill while passing out balloons to kids and they'll give you money, then watch and laugh as they fly away because they gave you $20 for about 500 balloons :D

The not fun way: Fall down the aforementioned hill and collect donations to pay for your hospital bill.
Reply:You could work at Sonics, some of the workers still skate around bringing food to your car. Or you could dress in drag and join a women's roller derby that would be fun, lol.

You could do roller blade car washes.

Where is the best place to go to get a set of roller blades?

What are you looking for?

I bought mine at Play it Again Sports. They were used and a bit dirty, but they were so much cheaper.

Target and Walmart carry them also if you are looking for something decent that is cheap. If you want something really good, try a sporting goods store.

14 weeks preg, no bump yet, can i go on my roller blades??

is it safe? if it is, at what stage of pregnancy is it best to avoid?

thanks

14 weeks preg, no bump yet, can i go on my roller blades??
Why are you asking here instead of talking with your doctor?

There are two things for her to consider.

Excercise - Inline skating is much lower impact than almost any other form of excercise. If you are allowed to walk, the excercise is probably within safe range.

Risk of accident - What happens if you trip. Do you have experiance falling so that you can tell your doctor the risk of landing on the baby?
Reply:well i was 3 mouth gone and i went on mine right until the end and ride a bike so i cant see why you cant, as long as you dint go silly on them i would go on them, i wasn't told by mu midwife 2 stop , excises thy say is good for you so if people are saying it will harm the baby that's wrong , excises is good for you and the baby , so forget what the others are saying just be care full, if your going 2 lose a baby you will .[NOT] cos your on roller blades, so you go and in joy what you like doing. but as i said be care full, good luck with baby.x
Reply:NO,NO,NO never go on roller blades pregnant. Your stage of pregnancy is the greatest stage for miscarriage. You need to read some books about pregnancy...may I recommend the book "What to expect when you're expecting" Most doctors recommend this book. My daughters Dr. did, and it has everything you need to know for every stage of pregnancy. Take care of yourself and your baby, and good luck to you!
Reply:I dont think it would be a good idea to go on your roller blades. You may fall or summing and injure yourself and your growing baby. I think it is best to avoid rollerblading at all part of pregnancy..wait untill after you have the baby to start again...

good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!
Reply:if youre really good then it's okay but if youre so-so at it then dont

and actualyl after 13 weeks the uterus becomes more outward (though you may not have a bump yet) so more prone to injuries which could affect the pregnancy and thus the baby.
Reply:you could still fall and hurt yourself or baby, even though there is no bump. i don't think it is safe to do while you are pregnant, sorry. ask your doc though they would know what is best, i can tell you my doc would say absolutely not to roller blading. take care :)
Reply:i wouldn't it doesn't matter if you are showing or not you are still preg and don't want to risk falling and getting injured or injuring your baby.
Reply:i suggest not, pregnancy alters the tilt of your pelvis, also if you fall over you risk losing your baby

x
Reply:Ummmm I probably wouldn't - if you had a hard fall you could lose the baby. Walk the route instead and drink lots of water on the way.
Reply:I myself would hate to see someone that was pregnant get on roller blades , best be safe rather than sorry ,
Reply:Suppose it depends on how good you are on them! lol. Is it really worth that potential dodgy fall though? Don't think so myself.
Reply:Better not... never do anything that can potentially harm your baby even from the first trimester I'd say!
Reply:you may fall and damage you new baby, why take unecessary risk
Reply:KEEP OFF the roller blades, and stick to your SCOOTER!LOL
Reply:prob best you don't as you may fall and hurt your self and the baby
Reply:I hope you're joking.....
Reply:NO!!!
Reply:how old are you???
Reply:dont do it!!! u cud fall and kill the baby

When Jesus was a kid did he like skate boards or roller blades?

Reply:Dude had a hoverboard...
Reply:Oh, please! Like ball bearings had been invented when Jesus was little!
Reply:there were no skateboards or roller blades back then
Reply:Neither was invented yet. But it is suggested that he enjoyed hover crafts that were small enough to attach to parts of his body for concealed floatational devices.
Reply:seek and ye shall find
Reply:Homeboy jetski'd everywhere.
Reply:I don't think they had things like that but I do know that they have found evidence that children in the biblical era had sling shots and played games such as; leaping, climbing, racing, swimming, possibly playing team games. Wrestling was a popular game amongst boy children in Nazareth also. Variations of football, baseball, soccer..etc... all kinds of games! Tag, Dodge ball..etc... Jesus was probably just like the other children around him and played right along with them.

An interesting passage of the bible is:

If we read the eleventh chapter of Matthew, Jesus was talking about dialog between two groups of children:

"We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn."(Matt.11:16-17).

This is in reference to Jesus depicting the wedding game' and the funeral game' played by the children of his time. There were some children who wanted to play the wedding game in which one team played flutes, and the other team danced. But the other team did not like this proposal. So the former team suggested the funeral game in which one team wailed and the others mourned. This similitude is taken from the common custom among the Jewish children, who imitated the fashions of grown people at their marriages and funerals.

Just like children today would have played doctor, or had tea parties, or had a mock wedding,or played house, Jewish children in biblical times did the same thing!

Wot is the top speed you could go at on roller blades?

There are many factors that must be considered.

* Smoothness of the surface you are blading on,

* your physical strength,

* Quality of the roller blades them self (higher end ones will have better bearings in the wheels,

* Slope of the road you are on (up or down)

* wind speed, and whether a head wind or tail wind.

You can get quite a good clip going though, some competitors can finish a 10k race in about 15 minutes

Which is better for toning up your legs: Roller blades or a bike??

I am a beginner at working out. Please let me know which is better!!!

Which is better for toning up your legs: Roller blades or a bike??
roller blade movements will help develop your calves %26amp; groin, skating strides %26amp; gliding motions; your weight is disributed differently between the two sports.

biking motions will generally help with toning your legs, although your quad/hamstrings will respond to the increased activity; leg pumping motions

mind you, both will exercise your legs depending on duration %26amp; intensity
Reply:roller blades if you are going to do sprints, but bike for long distance.
Reply:in my opinion its bike because your legs are actually excersizingg lol well its just my opinion so i cant guarantee itt

How do you stop on normal 4 wheel roller blades?

wrong catergory i know but there seems to be no one in the sports catergory must have all gone to bed. Thanks to anyone that can help

How do you stop on normal 4 wheel roller blades?
The toes have a rubber stopper/brake. Put a toe down - gently - or you'll go *** over tea kettle. ;-)
Reply:you try to slow down
Reply:Apparently most of the people think you are asking about quad skates. That is the name for the roller skates with 4 wheels in a rectangle.

You just drag your toe, there is a rubber bumper there. Too obvious to be asking as a question.

Since you called them roller blades, I am assuming that you are on inline skates.

Almost all inline skates come with a heel brake. You can move it to the other foot if you are more comfortable with the left foot forward. It is the most effective method of stopping and is a low skill move.

Scissors your feet with the brake skate forward - the farther forward you can get it, the faster you can stop.

Lift the toe of the brake skate.

Apply weight to the heel of the skate.

It helps if you bend your knees while setting up for the stop.

Rollerblade has a cheesy animation of this on their web site at www.rollerblade.com/home/

The easiest method without a heel brake (it will chew up your wheels) is the T stop.

Shift your weight onto the non-braking skate.

Twist your foot so that the skate is almost sideways and drag it behind you.

There is a tendency at first for this to turn you to the side of the foot you are dragging. Starting with the skate not all the way sideways and putting more weight on the heel of the braking skate can be used to adjust so that you stay straight.
Reply:Dive into the gravel on the side of the road.
Reply:i think that it is the toe of the roller blades i use to skate and i first started out on those and then every time i wanted to stop i thought i would fall on my face put the 2 roller blades you have to stop on the back of the heel which makes you think that you are falling on your head but hope that you have fun
Reply:use the stoper pads on the toes of the skates
Reply:slide on the sides.
Reply:just find something to fall on to. something soft, preferably.
