Does anyone know why there is hundreds of people on roller blades going down Goodge Street, (West End)??

when lived in london and used go rollerblading in Hyde Park there used to be so many of them cool looking skaters who would go all the way though the city, were soo good and funky looking and there was me just managing to stay up on my skates, would have got killed by a car if tried to do that, maybe just the weekly gathering of skaters I'd say.

Does anyone know why there is hundreds of people on roller blades going down Goodge Street, (West End)??

Wot is the top speed you could go at on roller blades?

There are many factors that must be considered.

* Smoothness of the surface you are blading on,

* your physical strength,

* Quality of the roller blades them self (higher end ones will have better bearings in the wheels,

* Slope of the road you are on (up or down)

* wind speed, and whether a head wind or tail wind.

You can get quite a good clip going though, some competitors can finish a 10k race in about 15 minutes

roller blade movements will help develop your calves %26amp; groin, skating strides %26amp; gliding motions; your weight is disributed differently between the two sports.

How do you stop on normal 4 wheel roller blades?

wrong catergory i know but there seems to be no one in the sports catergory must have all gone to bed. Thanks to anyone that can help

How do you stop on normal 4 wheel roller blades?
The toes have a rubber stopper/brake. Put a toe down - gently - or you'll go *** over tea kettle. ;-)
Reply:you try to slow down
Reply:Apparently most of the people think you are asking about quad skates. That is the name for the roller skates with 4 wheels in a rectangle.

You just drag your toe, there is a rubber bumper there. Too obvious to be asking as a question.

Since you called them roller blades, I am assuming that you are on inline skates.

Almost all inline skates come with a heel brake. You can move it to the other foot if you are more comfortable with the left foot forward. It is the most effective method of stopping and is a low skill move.

Scissors your feet with the brake skate forward - the farther forward you can get it, the faster you can stop.

Lift the toe of the brake skate.

Apply weight to the heel of the skate.

It helps if you bend your knees while setting up for the stop.

Rollerblade has a cheesy animation of this on their web site at www.rollerblade.com/home/

The easiest method without a heel brake (it will chew up your wheels) is the T stop.

Shift your weight onto the non-braking skate.

Twist your foot so that the skate is almost sideways and drag it behind you.

There is a tendency at first for this to turn you to the side of the foot you are dragging. Starting with the skate not all the way sideways and putting more weight on the heel of the braking skate can be used to adjust so that you stay straight.

What rocker is best for speed on my roller blades?

one quick thing...I'm answering this question because nobody has and you seem to have re-listed it. The boat in the water world movie is a Corsair 40 trimaran. They still make them. You can look up corsair trimarans and get all of the information about them. They are fast because they dont haul around 10,000 pounds of lead like a monohull sailboat for the same waterline.

Is it easier to lose weight from exercising with roller skates or roller blades (the ones like ice skates)?

'Quad' skates (wheel at each corner) use a more complicated ankle action, because they have a steering mechanism in them.

If you're not used to skating, that means each of your lower leg muscles needs to work more powerfully and suddenly, to keep you moving correctly. The bigger muscles (hip %26amp; thigh) won't be doing much, because your lower-leg stability wouldn't cope with their full power.

Because 'inline' or 'blade' skates move in a straight line (or a gentle curve), there's less for the small muscles in your lower leg to do. That means your Buttock and Thigh muscles can really get some power down. The force needed to propel you around, isn't really a challenge to these muscles (they are the strongest muscles in your body), so they can burn a lot of fat while they contract smoothly and gently.

The more smoothly you skate, and the more 'gliding' feeling you can get into the movement, the better this activity is at shifting fat. If you are staggering around, starting %26amp; stopping, and making jerky, short movements, these short, vigorous muscle contractions will be burning extra sugar instead of fat (and making you hungry %26amp; tired).

For most people (even for moderately experienced skaters, and especially for skaters who have only used the 'inline' type), a smooth 'gliding' action is easier to perform on the 'inline' (blade) type of skate. This means that they will be more likely to skate gently for a long time, and burn off a lot of fat without being fatigued and ravenously hungry.

'Quad' skates tend to be more tiring, so that you stop skating sooner and eat the whole chocolate machine.

A very experienced skater will be able to use a very nearly identical muscle action with either type of skate, so for them, the effect on bodyfat will be the same using both.

On either kind of skate, using a lot of 'crossover' movements will strongly activate muscles around your waist. By exercising these muscles, you will cause them to tighten up, and 'pinch in' your waist. This looks good, but it also allows you to move better, improves your digestion and supports your spine.

So even without removing any fat (or weight), skating can improve the look, feel and capability of your physique.

Is it easier to lose weight from exercising with roller skates or roller blades (the ones like ice skates)?
Jogging would lose more weight, more muscle movement

Where can i get brakes for Reebok Boa roller blades??
You won't find them. Reebok never was much into the skate business and got out of it long ago.

Your best bet is to take the block in to a store and see if either the non-ABT brake from Rollerblade or K2's brake is close. Many companies made brakes that mounted similarly. The brakes can be trimmed slightly with a utility knife to make them fit but be sure to keep your origonal screw since some brands used different screw threads.

What are all the parts of professional roller blades?

What are all the parts of professional roller blades?
The term is inline skates. Rollerblade is a company.

Same as Schwin is a company that makes bicycles.

The most visible part is the boot.

Under that is the frame that holds the wheels.

The wheels that you see are actually made up of wheels, bearings and bearing spacers.

There are axles that hold the wheels to the frame. There can be one or two peices to the axles. There are three piece axles but the third piece is actually a special bearing spacer.

If you are talking about agressive skates, you also have grind plates and blocks.

Is there any one else here who roller blades?

I mean like people who go off ramps and people who are actually GOOD and don't just ride on the sidewalk during their "leisure time". If your good like that then what skates would you recommend? I want "agressive skates" that are smooth, fast, and durable. What skates should i get?

Which is easier inline skates or roller blades/quads?

I'm going skating tommorrow, and I haven't skated since 6th grade. It takes me a while to get used to it, but Ill soon get it. I just need to know what is the best choice for someone who has trouble with skating. Also in addition to this question is this the techniques to skating?

-Make a V with your feet

-Bend knees slightly

-Don't look down

-March and don't walk

Which is easier inline skates or roller blades/quads?
As a beginner it is easier to stand up and move slowly on quads. (roller blades is a slang term for inline skates, Rollerblade is a brand name)

If you were going to be skating regularly, especially outdoors, I would recommend inline skates but that doesn't sound like the case here.

Don't try to march or walk. With your toes pointed out slightly, slide push off with one foot and roll forward on the other.

For your first strides, just step forward with the pushing foot and repeat in the other direction.

As you get the feel for it, you extend the time when you roll between pushing forward.

As you get better, decrease the angle that your toes are out and push more sideways.

Should you start achild off with reg. roller skates or roller blades?

My husband and I disagree on this.He thinks it is easier to learn on rollerblades, I think it's easier on skates.

Should you start achild off with reg. roller skates or roller blades?
i have owned my own skates (roller) since i was little.

i am an adult now and own my own speed skates, i can waltz on skates, skate backward and dance and spin like a pro.

put me in roller blades and i become a clutz and don't even think about ice skates... OUCH!

My young daughters were allowed to use BOTH and can BOTH rollererblade and speed skate.

So, i would say buy both, that's what I did and my girls turned out fine.

I like roller skates (not blades) because you have more flexibility and such. You can do more things, what with the spinning and twisting and turning that you can NOT do on rollerblades.

I always think of blades as an outside activity and skates as indoor.

Call up your local roller rink and see what they say. If you want her to compete someday that might be a factor in your decision.

Also asking your daughter what she wants is an idea.

Either way you go, you are still good parents for wanting your daughter to have this skill.
Reply:they are both the same as far as learning how to use them. I think roller blades are easier though. I tryed to use skates, and they felt weird.
Reply:rollerblades.
Reply:I'd say roller skates, because they're easier to balance on when not moving.
Reply:roller skates
Reply:Both are going to be difficult. When Roller blades first came out I was very decent at roller skating, I completely sucked at Roller blading. After a year or so of Roller blading though I was jumping stairs and doing tricks.

Then a friend of mine had a party at skate-land and my Rollerblades were not allowed. I fell about 20 times trying to relearn skates.

So either one is going to be difficult at first but they are two entirely different styles of skating. HOWEVER, if this is your son get him roller blades skates would be totally gay.

What is a good brand for roller blades? Is Inline good?

Is "formula inline skates" a good brand?

What is a good brand for roller blades? Is Inline good?
The two major brands for inline skates in the US are Rollerblade and K2. Bladerunner is a low end brand made by Rollerblade. There are a few minor brands (like Roces and Tour) that make good skates but are more into specialized areas like hockey and agressive skating.

"Formula" as a brand (http://cgi.ebay.com/INLINE-SKATES-FORMUL... is likely to be a no name discount store brand. Most of those are not very good. You would have to look at how they are built and how much you will be using them.

If Formula is a model name such as Tour (brand) Formula (model) then they may be good but the Tour Formula skates (www.thefind.com/qq-Formula-Inline-Skate... are hockey skates rather than a general purppose (recreational) skate.

Things to look for in a skate:

Fit - If they don't fit snug around your feet, they will allow your feet to move around in them when skating. Not good for control and may cause blisters. They should be snug all around the feet but not crush your toes.

Wheel size - low end, childrens, and small adult skates may have wheels smaller than 80mm. If you intend to do much skating, 80mm or larger wheels are recommended. The smaller sizes are harder to get good replacements for and larger wheels roll better.

Frame (the part that holds the wheels) - metal is better than plastic. It is stiffer and transfers more energy to the wheels.

I have seen a heavy person on discount store skates with plastic frames that was asking why they didn't roll well. The mounting for the heel wheel had broken.
Reply:The thing about the roller blades is how they fit your foot. You need to try them on and stand on them (roller blade a little in the store, if you can).

Twenty minutes of trying on different brands, different styles, and YOU will know which ones you want. Yes, they feel that different. Bottom line, you pretty much get what you pay for.

I don't think the wheels/bearings are going to make that much difference when you are starting. Go by how they feel, and you will get good wheels/bearings because you won't settle for the cheapest ones.

Now get out there and go have fun! :-)

What are the best wheels for roller blades that make then go fast out doors?

bigger wheels make you got fast so if you got some bigger than what you already have that'd help, brands don't matter wheels are wheels they all roll, but really its the bearings that make you go really fast, get swiss rated bearings instead of abec rated and you'll have a faster set or get abec 7 or 9's and you'll have lots of speed. Keep them cleaned and lubed and they'll last a long time. I like bones brand because i've been using them for years they are completly sealed and last longer than most. I use them on my rollerblades and long them, been using them on my skateboards forever.

What are important things to know before buying roller blades? whats the difference between skates and blades?

You might need to know the sizing, just in case they don't run true to size. Rollerskates have their wheels set up like a skateboard with trucks. Rollerblades look like ice skates with wheels on them. But, truthfully, the words "blades" and "skates" get thrown around a lot and used interchangeably.

What are important things to know before buying roller blades? whats the difference between skates and blades?
Inline skates (Rollerblade is a brand name like Kleenex rather than a type of skate) are the more common version of roller skates. The other version, with 4 wheels in a rectangle, is now called quad skates.

First decide on how you want to skate and how much.

Most people fall into the recreation/fitness catagories. They skate on streets or trails to go some distance.

Unless a skate is labeled for a specific use (hockey, agressive, racing, figure) it is going to be rec/fitness.

There are two major brands of rec/fit skates in the US.

Rollerblade (they created the first modern inline skate and made it popular) and K2. They have the money to do research and engineering on new features and it shows. There are some minor brands like RollerDerby that are good but not as good and then there are some discount store brands that are store specific and tend to be really poor.

The smaller brands may cause you problems when you try to find replacement brakes or other parts.

Larger wheels roll better (also over objects) than small wheels. 80mm is the smallest wheel size that has a large variety of replacements. Unless you have a real reason (slalom or dance moves) to want small wheels, I recommend looking for 80mm or larger.

A metal frame is better than plastic. A single piece extruded frame is best.

The difference between recreational and fitness is very blurry. Fitness skates are for skating faster and farther. Their boots tend to be a couple inches shorter for more flexibility. They usually have 90 or 100 mm wheels and extruded frames that are longer than the cheaper rec skates.

Fit is critical. Loose feels good in the store but causes problems later.

You want the skate to be a part of your foot. It should be snug all around the foot without pinching your toes.

Try on as many skates as you can find in your range. Different models and brands have different foot shapes in mind. Try both men's and women's skates. The companies use different foot shapes for them and the "wrong" one might fit your foot better.

Get a helmet and wrist guards. I have known a person who died after hitting the back of his head in a fall. I know others who went through months of headaches after helmetless falls.

Your hands will hit the ground in almost any fall and wrist guards can save you a lot of painful road rash.

What does it mean when roller blades say 88A?

88A refers to the Durometer, or the hardness of the wheel, not the wheel size (mm)- . The harder the wheel, the longer lasting it will be. The downside- less shock absorption. Rated on a scale of 1-100, the most common being in the 78-82 range. 88A should hold up well on rougher surfaces such as roadway. If you're blading indoors, a lower Durometer might be a better choice.

What does it mean when roller blades say 88A?
Will, you contradict yourself. San is right, the A designates the hardness of the wheel, with 88A being a pretty hard wheel. It will have less grip but more durability.

If your wheels are an 88A, I hope you aren't using them indoors, because it would be very difficult to find the proper grip. I used 82A wheels once indoors and couldn't skate worth beans because it was too hard for the surface.
Reply:It refers to the wheel size.

Wheel sizes vary depending on the skating style:

48-60 mm for aggressive skating.

68-72 mm for artistic inline skating.

72-80 mm for general recreational skating.

59-80 mm for roller hockey skating and slalom.

80-110 mm for speed skating.

In general the bigger the wheel, the faster the skate. However, large wheels take more energy to start rolling. Smaller wheels allow faster acceleration, maneuverability, and a lower center of gravity. Wheel hardness is measured on the A scale (see Durometer) and usually ranges between 78A-93A (higher numbers are harder). Harder wheels are faster and more durable, but soft wheels may have better grip (grip is determined by many factors, and wheel manufacture is arguably more important than durometer) and less affected by road bumps. Wheel profiles and thicknesses again vary by application. Elliptic profiles minimise friction for a faster ride; more rounded profiles have better grip and are more stable.

Would like to find roller blades what are the names of good brands?

My exbf and I still regulary rollerblade together, and we got ours from a mutual friend who is a K2 rep. My ex knows rollerblades pretty well, as he used to play roller hockey as a kid til he was a teenager. The K2's are fantastic; they do well by us both. Mine, in fact, were designed by an Olympic gold speed skater from Austria (and I LOVE them!)

Would like to find roller blades what are the names of good brands?
Well known brands for rollerblades(inline skates) are namely rollerblade and K2. People who knows about inline skates usually go for these two brands. Other brands includes, powerslide, roces, seba skates and micro skates. Seba skates are specially created for slalom skating and for roces skate, many inline skaters who does freestyle(slides) go for that brand. Micro skates are manily recreational skates though seba is under micro as well.

But if you want to buy skates, you should not just go for the brands. A good skate would be something that fit you comfortably and it gives you a snug fit. Different brand skates are made differently. For K2, they are made narrow which is ideal for ppl with slim feet and they are also know for their comfort level.

Just go to a inline skate shop, the sales personnel will probably recommend one that is most suitable for you.

Whats the differance in roller blades wheels?

i see some that are flat and some rounded on the bottom. is one for indoor or asplalt. as a biginer would it be better with the flat ones?

Whats the differance in roller blades wheels?
The only wheels that are litterally flat across the bottom are the tiny and hard agressive wheels. They are made that way to help agressive skaters land after large jumps.

All rec/fitness/racing/hockey/street wheels should be rounded. The racing wheels may have a slightly more pointed profile but it isn't that important. If you will be doing a lot of indoor skating, you might want to ask others who skate at the location about what wheels work well on their particular floor.

I use the Zero Drag 84A Racing wheels (http://www.rollerbob.com/cat-10.html) both indoors and outdoors.

The indoor floor is polished concrete (concorses at our domed stadium www.roller-dome.com) but the loop is large and the corners are not sharp.
Reply:For starters I would use the round ones they feel better

Are Heelys similar to roller blades or in line skates?

If so, how?

Which are safer?

Are Heelys similar to roller blades or in line skates?
Heelys are the brand name for sneakers that have a removable wheel in the heel of each shoe.

Heelys have only one removable wheel per shoe, so are not really like either skates, except that perhaps that you generally learn to use them by putting your feet heel to toe in an "in line" fashion.

My daughter got her first pair at 6 and learned how to use them very well in two weeks. She practiced in the kitchen at first, but good at it fairly quickly. She has had them almost 2 years now.

They are pretty good quality and the wheel bearings are quite good. My daughter has gotten them wet, sandy, etc. and they continue to work fine.

Heely's are probably a little safer for younger kids because they are easier to use and stopping is very easy. However, the danger of hurting your wrists or tailbone if you fall would be the same.
Reply:Absolutely NOT!! Nothing like them, not even a little.

Cross country skiing on roller blades?

I am aware the people I have seen on trails simulating cross country skiing on rollerblades are quite possiably off-season trainers however; I beleive some of them are engaging in this sport for recreation and excersize. My ? is: Is trere a name given to this sport so I can give the equipment a name to do a search on e-bay.

Thanks for your help.

Cross country skiing on roller blades?
If they are longer than rollerblades and have cross country bindings and boots, they are roller skis.

If they are long rollerblades, than I suppose search there.

You'll use the same boots and poles as in cross country skiing, but you'll have a hard rubber tip instead of carbide tip!

I have used these to train for skiing, but honestly prefere to cross train without these in the off season. The actual technique and flow is just different enough that I would rather work the same muscles by cross training, including pole or hill bounding (running up hills with the poles).

I really like roller blading I wanna get some inline roller blades, what kind should i get?

(my budget is around 150$ would i have to spend more, i like indoor skating and street)

I really like roller blading I wanna get some inline roller blades, what kind should i get?
While I'm a Mission fan, I suspect that it's not the brand but type of skate.

After playing some street hockey, I've learned that the toe must be tougher and stiff to prevent unreasonably fast wear.

There's also the matter of binding: laces vs. plastic buckles. I'd say go with laces all the way for a comfortable fit. If a skate offers a buckle over the lace, you might consider this skate as well.

Then there's the matter of buckle/lace height. I don't like a high rising boot.

In terms of breaks, I cannot help. I've never gotten the hang of roller skate breaks and have found them completely useless for street hockey.

My Mission skates came with an aluminum blade to which the wheels attach. I've had this skate forever and don't recall the disadvantages of having a plastic blade. I suspect that the mounting holes to which the wheel bolts hold together better and the spacing for the wheel remains original throughout wheel replacements for a skate with an aluminum blade.

A major factor to my skates has been the wheel hubs. Unlike some inexpensive skates that used to come with plastic hubs, my skates came with aluminum hubs. These are a must. While they may be purchased separately for a later replacement, I'd expect higher quality skates to have wheel aluminum hubs.

Look for inner padding that is designed to mold to the foot as the skate is broken in. Particularly, I like extra padding around the talus, I think that's the bone that sticks out on the inside of the foot.

Lastly, I prefer a fabric type of outer material. Having skated on ice, the fabric looks right for me while plastic seems artificial.

Disclaimer: I've had the same pair of skates for more than 8 years. Since I have not shopped recently for a pair of skates, I have no idea how the technology has changed. I also do not have a good recollection of the inexpensive skates I had before my current pair. As a testament to Mission Flow Mod 4 Series 55 skates, my experience with my in-line pair led me to pick up a pair of Mission S400 ice skates.
Reply:A great inline skate will be Bauer. I started rollerblading when I was about 5 and so far the best I have found is Bauer. But of course, its all relative.

Is there a different name for Roller Blades without straight wheels? Suggestions on any good quality Blades?

I'm talking about the rollerblades that have a sort of Criss-Cross with the wheels. I've used them once, and found that they handled a lot easier.

If this question can't be answered, could anyone at least give me the names of some good skates that handle well? I'm sick of the normal plastic ones that slide all over the place.

Is there a difference between roller blades and roller skates?

I am just curious because i want to start skating soon and I was just wondering. I have no idea what the difference is between them but thats why I'm asking you. Thank you!

Is there a difference between roller blades and roller skates?
Rollar Skates have 4 wheels located at the best locations for stablity,.. you are use to seeing these locations on a car. Were you to line the skate up with North and put a compus in the show, these four directions would be North East, North West, South East, and South West.

Rollar Skates are older then blades. They usually have the piece to help you stop suddenly on the front of the shoe, as a a tilt, below the toes.

There are various partial Roller Skates which attach to normal shoes, these were very populer for children in the 70's.

There are special Speed Skates that have only two wheels. These looks like Rollar Blades but came before Roller Blades. They are not safe or stable.

Roller Blades are typically 4 small smooth wheels lined up under the center of the shoe. Were the shoe pointing North, the first wheel would be pointed North and the last would be pointed South.

Roller Blades some what simulate Ice Skateing. They are faster and easier to operate then the far more stable Roller Skate. They also are so unstable they result in more injuries and worse injuries then Roller Skates.

The Piece to stop yourself on Roller Blades is typically on the back and in a rectangular shape, while the Roller Skate Stopper is normally round and ressembleing of some door knobs.

The wheels on a Roller Skate are some times the same meessurement in all directions. They are wide wheels instead of the skiny tight ones on Roller Blades. The Wheels on a Roller Skate are also flat and atleast an inch wide on the side that makes contact with the ground.

The worst thing I have known people that had happened to them on Rollar Blades is when they brake to stop they slide for up to 12 feet and at cross walks this means under Cars and Buses,.. and that is where they take their last breath. With Roller Skates haveing the breaks infront, a common injury appears to be landing on your knees and causeing a small chip.

Roller Blades are also called InLine Skates due to the pattern of their wheels.

Roller Skates can be made with balls instead of Wheels in a variety of patterns,.. some of which are the same as Inline Skates. These Ball varients are prefered for young children and beginners. On some popular childrens "Skates" the frame holding the Balls could be shifted around, giving many wheel patterns to small children, one of which was an inline skate and another was the pattern normal for Roller Skates.
Reply:They are both skates.
Reply:Well... I think MOST rollerblades only have one set of wheels while SOME rollerskates have 2.

Hope this helps!
Reply:Roller skates have four wheels in a rectangular pattern, like this: http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbvi... and roller blades have four wheels in a straight line, like this: http://www.childsafetyaustralia.com.au/c...
Reply:ummmm....if this is about inline and rollers, then why is this in the "ICE/FIGURE" skating category?!? anyway, i'll ASSUME your question involves ice skating. well inline skates have four wheels alined and roller skates have four wheels in rows; heres links:

the first 2 are inline, and the second 2 are rollers!! but don't worry there are a LOT of other colors!! lol

Reply:I have heard when you have never done either before that it is easier to start with roller blades. My sister in law rollerblades constantly and started with it. She said that because the rollers are in a line she finds it easier.
Reply:Roller skates have 4 wheels 2 on each side to aid balance of the skater.....roller blades have a single row of wheels which make the experience similar to ice skating. In my opinion roller blades take more skill to master........
Reply:Roller blades have a single line of wheels.

Roller skates have two lines of wheels.
Reply:Roller blades have wheels in line like a blade on a skate.Roller skates have the wheels set at four corners(so to speak) of the boot.
Reply:roller skates aka quads r easier to learn on because of the equal balancing aspect. roller blades aka inlines r more like ice skating skates. personally i prefer rollerblades. if you can ice skate then roller blading will come much easier to u but either way if u spend 1 day on either will will know how to skate by the end of the day. try out a mates if u can b4 u buy either 1.
Reply:Roller blades (or In-line skates) have 4 wheels in a straight line.

Roller skates have 4 wheels in pairs, for example O=1 wheel:

OO

OO

That would be the layout of the wheels on the skate. As a general rule, roller skates tend to be easier to use as less balance is required, but both are great fun!

Are skateboards and roller blades popular in your area and are there outdoor skate parks locally?

I am thinking about contacting someone already in a outdoor skate park business and finding out the pros %26amp; cons of developing one in our area where there is only a indoor flat floor rink.

Would you think it is a good or bad idea and your thoughts please?

Are skateboards and roller blades popular in your area and are there outdoor skate parks locally?
There were quite a few skateboarders when I went to high school. There were no rinks or anything around. Absolutely no place to skate. So they all got together and convinced the school board to let them build a small skate park in the unused section of the teachers parking lot. They paid for it all out of their own pockets and it was free to the public. It was extremely small but it satisfied their needs. The only rule the board had was that there had to be a teacher or some kind of supervisor present as they were skating, and they were released from all liability if someone got hurt. And they had to put certain, more dangerous things away after a certain time or when the supervisor left (things like ramps that would be dangerous for just anyone to skate on-the small ramps were ok). They were able to move everything if it was needed so it worked out.

Which is more difficult, roller skates or roller blades??

I find roller skates to be the more difficult, though I can roller skate and rollerblade. Maybe it's because when you stop you can stand on the sides of your feet in rollerblades, where that would be difficult, if not impossible, to do on rollerskates. I also found it easier to brake with the brake being on the heel with rollerblades, in contrast to the brake at the front of the foot (or boot) on rollerskates. When I tried braking in skates I usually wanted to topple over, head first.

I will admit, the first time I seen a pair of rollerblades (or inline skates), I thought there was no way in hell I could do THAT, after I had spent so many years roller skating. So I when I first tried to, I was surprised that I was able to pick up so quickly and so well. Ever since I tried on that first pair of rollerblades I've prefered blades over skates. Not just because it was easier, but because they didn't hurt my feet nearly as much.

Which is more difficult, roller skates or roller blades??
I have tried both, but personally find the skates harder.
Reply:roller blades, they take alot more balance and practice. but, you go like twice as fast on roller blades
Reply:blades, but alot more fun!!
Reply:roller blades, its harder to balance yourself on them
Reply:roller skates!!!! omg there are four wheels, so it makes it more difficult in terms of control and balance. roller blades are inline... so easy.

When skating on roller blades how do you stop?

I've tried by using the brakey things but I'm not daring enough to use it when I'm going fast!

When skating on roller blades how do you stop?
Make sure your skates are close together, this will help stabalize you. Make sure to bend your knees and move some of your weight (not all of it) into your heels were you can apply the brake. Another method is called the T-stop. This is where you place one skate behind the other, horizontally (creating a T). The skate placed horizontally will slow you down to a stop at a more gradual pace, also depending on how much weight you're putting on that skate.
Reply:I usually try to find something to crash into.
Reply:There are several ways to stop without a heel brake. The most common of these is the "T Stop". For advanced skaters there is also the "Power Slide" - similar to a hockey stop. There is alo a stop I call the "T-Jam".

The "T Stop" I teach in 4 stages:

1. With body erect, feet parallel - no more than 2" apart, bend knees deeply as you roll forward

2. Keep shoulders %26amp; chest facing forward extending your right arm forward, palm down at waist level - left arm to the side, palm down at waist level*. Lefties may wish to extend the left arm forward %26amp; the right arm to the side.

3. Roll forward with all your weight onto your left foot (the balance foot) for right handers - right foot might be the more comfortable balance foot for lefties.

4. Do not lift but drag the inside edge of the back foot (the braking foot), with all wheels in contact with the surface, into a "T", drawing the instep toward the heel of the "balance foot", easing you to a smooth stop.

Note: Knees remain bent, The weight is centered over the "balance foot", the "braking foot" is unweighted behind, in a "T" %26amp; does not touch the "balance foot" remaining from 2" to 4" behind it %26amp; the arms remain one forward in opposition to the breaking foot %26amp; one actively stretching to the side to keep you centered over the "balance foot".

*If you are right handed you will probably feel more comfortable stopping by bringing your right into the braking position. Bringing your right foot into a "T" tends to make 2 things happen a. it makes your right shoulder pull back which can spin you around b. it can make you fall to the right.

To counter those tendencies, it helps to bring your right arm forward, palm down at waist level, to square that shoulder forward %26amp; check the spin %26amp; stretching your left arm to the side, palm down at waist level, to help balance you over your left foot. The reverse, of course, would apply for Lefties. It takes practice, but when you get it you won't need that cubersome heel brake.

The "T Jam" requires performing a "Spread Eagle" or "C" turn, knees well bent, then bring your feet parallel %26amp; roll backwards for a count of 2, %26amp; keeping your shoulders square to the front %26amp; your weight on the forward foot thrust the other foot straight back, jamming it's inside edge into the ground in a reverse "T" stop. It is important to keep the weight totally on the forward foot %26amp; maintain the shoulders %26amp; the "braking foot" perpendicular to your line of travel.

Reply:u turn ur blades, grab onto sumthing, or hop u have brakes on it

painful, but effective.

I'm sorry to tell you but it's probably the skates. Most of the lower cost skates have cheap bearings in the wheels and so they are slower and stiffer no matter what. you can but new bearings at the skating rings if they are blades or even speed wheels may help. Are they in-line or no? Well good luck.

I need roller blades, but I wear a Size 15 shoe...?

I can't find a web site that sells skates my size, do you know of any?

I need roller blades, but I wear a Size 15 shoe...?
depends on the maker of the skates is what size you need. if you are just buying skates at say walmart or a local sporting store then basic shoe size is how they are normally measured.

if you want real inline skates, then look into names like luigino, powerslide, bont, etc. here is the sizing chart for two of them but remember....top of the line inlines are each measured by each manufacturers specs. http://www.powerslideusa.com/luigino/siz...

I myself have the Powerslide C4's (http://www.powerslideusa.com/C4_tech_spe... ) and absolutly love them. On indoor track have been clocked at 28mph and I know from others they can handle up to 85mph outdoors.

also know that normal ones bought at like walmart will not be fast, not be comfortable, not be form fitting to your feet and ankles, will have low grade wheels, bearings and spacers. like anything else...you get what you pay for.

What does ABEC means related to Roller Blades? Any recommendation when buying Roller Blades?

ABEC is just the type of bearing. It means nothing. Its the number that follows it that is important. the higher the number, the better. Try and get ABEC 7s...other than skateboard named bearings, they are the fastest around.

Our children, ages 8 and 12 have been gripeing for these, and I recently purchased them for Christmas, having second thoughs due to safety reasons. What's your take on it? Are they old enough?

Do your children have roller blades, roller sneakers, and/or Heeley's?
I have three kids, 13-8-5

all have some sort of wheeled shoe contraption. Never seriously injured, but do be carefull. They all started with helmets and pads.

They recieved more injury from me yelling at them about not using the heelies in the house!

here are some injury prevention links and info.

Reply:My kids have had them, 13 and 9. They're perfectly safe, just wear a helmet, and elbow pads and knee pads if you want to avoid those scrapes. Honestly, you can't possibly be seriously injured from something like this, unless you jumped off a cliff with them.
Reply:I ABSOLUTELY hate these products - they are so unsafe not to mention annoying to other people. If they were used properly - outside instead of in the middle of a store or mall. I cannot tell you how many times I have almost been ran over by a kid wearing them, or seen a kid fall on his butt or head while using them. And if parents required the child to wear helmets when using them no matter what then they would be much safer. (oh, but that would not be cool, huh?)

Every time I see a kid using them I imagine that kid falling, cracking his/her head and then suing the company of the store they were in or the shoe company because the parents were stupid - and winning!!!

My kids are grown, but I know for sure if these were available when they were young, there is no way in hell that I would take that risk with their life and let them have them. My kids are WAY to important to me to let them have their way when I know it is unsafe.
Reply:Don't give them a helmet

When purchasing roller blades, should they be ordered in the same size as normal shoes?

yes. same size. it's best to try them on, but my Rollerblades are the same shoe size as i normally wear. it just depends on if you are going to wear thick socks for cushion, or thin socks. I'd be consistent with the thickness, if i were you. good luck! have fun!

mainly i just want to go fast for a long time. there are manny long bike paths in my city and well maintained.. hills are minor and if going fast enough can esily coast up them. ive tried on all pairs they all fit nicely and seem be nearly exact in weight... cant decide opinions / experiance also greatly appreceated.

-thank you

On Roller Blades witch is better 84 or 90mm wheels?
The size is just how big they are. I'd go for 90 so it is smoother riding over pebbles and cracks. Smaller wheels tend to get stuck rolling over that type of stuff.
Reply:90mm wheels will roll easier and faster than 84s.

There are also better replacement wheels for 90s.

90s are the wave of the future for fitness skates where 84s are an intermediate size that was the most common one between when 80s were the big wheels and 90s comming out.

What roller blades are better than others?

The two brands of inline skates that are generally better than the others in the recreation/fitness area are Rollerblade and K2. If you are into hockey, agressive, or racing, there are other brands that specialize in those sports.

The best ones are the ones that are for the type of skating that you want to do and fit you best. If the skates allow your feet to move around in them, they will not work well. They should feel snug all around your feet without smashing your toes.

Larger wheels and longer frames (the part that holds the wheels) are better for rolling over rough surfaces and speed.

Smaller wheels and shorter frames are better for manueverability and tricks.

Differences in bearings on any halfway quality skate are basicaly meaningless. Differences between wheel material (no way to tell without testing them) are much larger than differences in bearings.

Metal frames are better than plastic frames.

What roller blades are better than others?
Roller Blade is a specific brand of inline skates.

I would say the thing that separates the better inline skates is comfort and support (obviously,) if they are for recreation or a specific sport (ie. inline hockey,) type of wheels, and last but not least, the type of bearings.

Bearings are rated by the ABEC system, which is rated from 1-9. The ratings represent the level of tolerance when they are manufactured, so the the higher the tolerance or rating, the more you are going to pay.
