Roller Blading the same as Running?

I like to roller blade and i can skate for quite a long time. I am just wondering is the benefits the same as running? Or should i just run? Will i burn the same amount of calories or what?

If your rollerblading outside it works different muscles so it depends on what you want?
Reply:roller blading is less intense, and you will burn calories at a slower rate than running. Also, it targets different muscles than running, focusing a lot on your glutes, esp the outer ones.





However... roller blading is also low impact, so stress to your joints and ligaments, etc will be SIGNIFICANTLY less... so while your calorie burn rate will be slower, your injury rate will also be much lower.





You should maybe mix it up a bit - do both. Doing the same exercise for more than about 3 weeks at a time will cause a plateau. You should change up your workouts about every 3 weeks.
Reply:Inline skating is much more speed dependant than running for how much energy you burn per time or per mile.

Skaters generally go farther on a skate than most casual runners.


Skating is much lower impact on your joints.





The best excercise is whatever keeps you interested. Mixing it up could keep things interesting and give you a lot of variation in intensity.
Reply:well in roller blading, you are not using the same muscles, so there for not losing the same "type" of weight. if i were you, i would do a good amount of both. Not too much, that will pull one of your muscles or break a bone. you will burn a different type of calories, but close to the same amount.
Reply:Think about which is more demanding on the body. That's the one that will burn more calories. Obviously running is the harder of the two, so it would be more effective than skating.
Reply:No, roller blading is much easier on your body than running... running will easily burn 3 times more calories than roller blading does..
