For a 12 year old beginner, roller skates or roller blades?

I know he would prefer blades (they look so cool!) but rollers look more stable to me, to start with...

Honestly, it's whatever you get used to. I found inline skates easier to manipulate than standard skates. It's easier to turn, so in that sense they're safer. If he can ride a bike he can learn to use inline skates. Just make sure he wears a helmet either way!

Reply:Definately roller blades. To me they were actually eaiser then skates. Regular skates seem to be a thing of the past.
Reply:Blades are better, I think. But if they still make those Clamp On Roller Skates, well it isnt such an investment and you can learn the basics without outgrowing them every 5 months.
